Barack Obama is the new president-elect.

Here are a few of my thoughts on the morning after the election. I’ll try to flesh them out later.

America may change, but God does not. “For I am the LORD, I change not.” (Mal 3:6)

Whoever our leaders are, Christians must respect and pray for them.

“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” (Ro 13:1)

“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” (1Ti 2:1-2)

“The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes.” (Pr 21:1)

The battle to save the lives of unborn babies continues. And the battle to preserve the traditional family continues. By all appearances, these battles may be more difficult for Christians than ever before. But we still have some wonderful and godly Christian leaders across the land who understand these Biblical principles. We must pray for them faithfully and do our part to continue these battles!

Barack Obama may decide to move cautiously before trying to lead the nation to radical changes. If so, it is more important than ever that Christians make their voices heard! In the days of the internet, it is easier than ever to contact our elected officials. For example, we should all bookmark this web site: http://capwiz.com/frc/dbq/officials/. It enables us to know and contact all our elected representatives.

At this moment (it’s early Wednesday morning), it appears that supporters of traditional marriage have won a great victory in California (proposition 8 ) in spite of being heavily outspent. This should encourage Christians!

At this moment (again, it’s still too early to be sure), it does not appear that the more secularist thinking senators will have a super-majority (i.e., a filibuster-proof majority) in the senate. This means that controversial issues can still be hard-fought.

Christians should never expect the battles to be easy! Christians must not assume that difficult days cannot come to America. But Christians must always remember who wins in the end!

“Being found in appearance as a man, He [Jesus] humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Php 2:8-11)
