- Jesus said, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.” (John 15:18)
- “Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you.” (1 John 3:13)
- Jesus said.. “What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.” (Luke 6:22)
- Jesus also said, “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.” (Matthew 5:11)
- How can two people claim to love Jesus, but have very different understandings of what is right and wrong?
- Some people say they love Jesus, but their Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible. He is an imaginary Jesus that they invented in their own minds. Their imaginary Jesus may not condemn sin the way the real Jesus condemns sin.
- How can we make sure our Jesus is not imaginary?
- Study carefully what the Bible teaches about Jesus. Have a mentor who loves God’s Word and has been a Christian for many years.
- Why is it so dangerous to make our lives all about the pleasures and fun we can have in this world?
- The end of our life in this world is coming soon. At that point all that will matter is how we loved and served Jesus

- What are some examples of the way people today are rejecting God’s Word?
- They are rejecting much of what God teaches us about sex, about men and women, about marriage, about unborn children, about freedom, and about our identity in general.
- They are rejecting God’s authority to tell them the truth and replacing it with their own ideas and their own feelings.
- What are those people doing to Christians who still believe God’s Word about these things?
- Bullying them. Calling them names: bigot or a hypocrite or a homophobe or anti-woman… or a racist… or intolerant
- Between what two extremes must we Christians find balance in our response to these people?
- Standing firm and being courageous and speaking the truth in love on the one hand
- not being foolish or foolhardy or unnecessarily offensive or unloving or unkind

- “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” God says it twice for emphasis. (Proverbs 14:12 & 16:25)
- Is “Black lives matter” a true statement?
- Of course
- So what’s the problem with “Black Lives Matter?”
- It’s a non-Christian movement that uses words like “racism,” “poor,” “oppression,” etc. to teach values that are strongly opposed by God.
- How do we know that the United States is not, in general, a racist country?
- Because of laws passed to prohibit slavery and Jim Crow.
- Because so many black people are doing all they can to get INTO this country.
- How can I tell if I’m a racist?
- Am I partial for or against people because of the color of their skin? Would I make a choice to work with someone, eat with someone, be friends with someone, etc on the basis of their skin color?
- When bullies don’t have good arguments for what they believe, how do they try to win?
- By name calling, threats, trying to shut people up, by trying to shame and ridicule others, by telling people they are “on the wrong side of history,” etc.

- Being afraid to speak the truth
- Being ugly, rude, or obnoxious
- What two things must we pray for in order to stay balanced in what we say or don’t say?
