I have also added a new 3-minute video introduction to the video Bible Studies with some brief informtion that might be helpful to future class visitors. You can watch it at the top of our Standing Firm page.

Today’s Bible study can be found here: Romans 1:4 By His Resurrection from the Dead.
If you were in today’s class, begin at 26:44

I am experimenting with using an app called “GroupMe.” This may help us share prayer requests and news more efficiently. I’m not totally sure yet. There may be reasons why it might not be the best option for some of us. For a while, I’m going to try sending requests and other texts to the “GroupMe” app for those on the app. I’ll also be sending texts as before to those who are not using the app. I will appreciate any feedback you may have for me. In particular, if you could let me know if you are, or are not, getting GroupMe messages, it would help!

Welcome to our new members: Aaron Haun and his fiancée, Michelle Leonhardt. We are thrilled that they have chosen to be in our class!

Paula Miller did a wonderful job sharing about Pastor Hollie & Paula’s son, John Miller and his new mission enterprise in Iraq. If you missed the class, she showed us a powerful 11-minute video John put together to give us an idea of the kind of work God is enabling him to do there in Iraq. I think you can watch it (or re-watch it) here.

We are excited to have had 26 in attendance this past Sunday. Because we are growing, we are going to try a new meeting room this Sunday. Read about it on our Standing Firm Bible Study web page.

Please continue to pray for the requests listed last week (below).

7/31/22:

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!
THIS SUNDAY–AUGUST 7! Pastor Hollie Miller’s wife, Paula, will be sharing in our Standing Firm Class! She will share information about John Miller’s mission organization, One Vision, and their new ministry in the Middle East. (John is Hollie & Paula’s son.) I’ve also encouraged her to share anything else that might be on her heart, for example, how God has been working in their lives. I expect this to be a memorable class meeting! I think you are going to love Paula’s heart! Please be in class this Sunday if you can possibly make it!

We have a new class member! Conner Moses (Kasey & Mark’s son) joined our class today!

It was good to have 3 of Natalie’s college friends with us today! Please pray for traveling mercies for them as they are on the road heading for their respective colleges and universities. Thanks, Natalie, for bringing them with you to class today!

Because of Natalie’s 3 friends, we had a record high attendance of 24 today!

Mike & Shirley Dewberry: Both Mike and Shirley are still testing positive for COVID, but said they were feeling much better!

Please be in prayer for Steve & Vickie’s granddaughter, Kaylee. Kaylee is a 20-year old single young woman living in the Dallas, Texas area. As Vickie shared Sunday, she is considering moving to Tennessee to live with us for awhile. Since we shared that with you, there have been some developments in Texas that may keep her there for the immediate future. Thanks for your prayers!

As you know, we chose the name “Standing Firm” for our class partly because it is becoming more and more important for Christians to know how to Stand Firm on God’s Word in the increasingly secular and anti-Christian culture that we are living in. Through the years, I have found a daily podcast, entitled The Briefing, by Dr. Al Mohler, President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY to be an extremely valuable source of information about what’s happening in our culture. It’s a 25-minute daily analysis of current news and events from a Christian Worldview. If you’d like to check it here’s a link. If you have trouble getting to it, let me know.

Important News: The new KidsView program begins this coming Sunday morning (May 15)! That means that age-appropriate meetings will now be provided for all kids of both Sunday Schools. You MAY still bring kids or grandkids to our class if you prefer, but you now have an option.

(Click here to read all about Kidsview.)

NEW MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY! (I forgot to mention this Sunday): Beginning Saturday, May 28. at 2 PM, Vickie & I will be meeting with residents at Starr Regional Nursing Home in Etowah, TN once a month at 2:00 PM on the 4th Saturday of the month for worship, prayer, and Bible study. We sing a few of the old hymns, pray, have a brief Bible study, and try to encourage some of the residents personally. If any of you would like to join us, please let us know and we’ll give you more details. Vickie & I met monthly with precious residents of this nursing home for several years before COVID. They are just now able to let us back in.

Charlie Block: Charlie feels that his foot is healing this time, but is staying off of it per doctor’s instructions. He has a follow-up appointment this week.

Cathy Monroe: Cathy’s appointment has been changed to this Friday, May 13. She was not feeling well enough to attend Sunday. Please keep her in your prayers!

Steve Hall: Steve’s MRI revealed a small (10mm x 5mm x 11mm) tumor, which is probably benign. A second MRI (with a contrast agent) designed to confirm that it is benign has now been scheduled for Wednesday, May 18.

You should find a copy of our current class directory in a Google spreadsheet here. It’s still a work in progress, but I think we can use it to check on each other, update prayer requests, etc. (My android phone will let me select a phone number from it and either dial or text it without having to copy and paste.)

Charlie Block: Charlie is home healing after having 5 toes removed. Please pray that the inflammation will go away and he will experience complete healing of his foot so he can return to our class!

Rhonda Filer: Rhonda reports that her mother, Nell, is healing very well! PTL!

Cathy Monroe: Cathy is still suffering a lot of pain. They have discovered a cyst on her kidney. She is seeing a specialist on Friday, May 6.

The boy Randy Filer asked us to pray for (J.J.) who had been bitten by a rattlesnake, is still in the hospital but out of ICU. Still has a ways to go, but he should live through this.

Jared Hudgins: Jared is Steve & Vickie’s son. He’s dealing with Metabolic Syndrome and is facing radical changes in his diet & lifestyle to prevent diabetes and heart disease.

Steve Hall: I’m scheduled for a baseline brain MRI this Wednesday. Pray that all is clear.

Eric Rodriguez: Eric is having lots of pain after his shoulder surgery

Linda Sledge: This is another praise! Linda’s eye surgeries both went well!

JoAnn Sledge: We were thrilled to have JoAnn in our class for the first time today!

Charlie Block: Charlie is in the hospital at Fort Loudoun Medical Center in Lenoir City. He is having the remaining toes removed from his bad foot.

Amber McCosh: Amber is still having to work on Sundays. She also sent me this prayer request: “On May 5th I will be going for a cervical in site cancer screen.. and possible biopsy. Please pray God heals anything that is there and prepares me for a miracle. His will… Not my own.”

Rhonda Filer: Rhonda is on her way home after visiting with her mom, Nell, in Ft. Myers, FL. Nell is recovering after surgery for a broken hip.

Cathy Monroe: Cathy is still dealing with pain. She did have a good CAT scan last week (for COPD), but new meds for restless legs is causing some swelling in her feet and legs.

Eric Rodriguez: Eric’s shoulder surgery went well. But he still is in some pain. He hopes to get to come home Friday.

From Randy Filer: “Steve please but this little boy on our prayer chain he was bitten by a rattle snake and has had several doses of anti venom. His leg had to be cut open from above the knee to his ankle because of how bad it is swelling, please prayer that God heals him and also allows him to keep his leg as the drs are very worried. His name is JJ and is the grandson of one of Rhonda’s friends.”

Pastor Boris (in Ukraine): Greg said Pastor Boris got the money and was very grateful for the money and our prayers. He’s still helping refugees and said that where he is, things were “getting worse”

Linda Sledge: Linda’s cataract surgery went well. She has surgery for the other eye scheduled for this Friday, the 29th.

Sarah Lovingood (Danny & Sandra Lemon’s daughter): Doctors have found a malignant mass around her aorta. Very serious. But Danny said the doctor said it is treatable.

Joanie Chamberlain: Joanie is making slow but steady progress after her horrible fall and many broken bones. The hand surgeon wants her to wait 2 more weeks before trying strengthening exercises. She is still wearing hand and arm splints and a neck brace. She has an appointment with the spine doctor on May 2.

Kidsview Worship: This is a new ministry for kids that will begin on May 15…  and provide an additional opportunity for kids in our Sunday School hour.

Welcome New Class Members! We are thrilled that God has brought Nancy Garrett & Miriah Henderson to our class! (Nancy is Miriah’s Mom)

Steve: I would appreciate your prayers as I am planning to teach from the book of Judges this coming Sunday (May 1). I’m planning to do a brief overview of the entire book, then focus on some of the things we can learn from Gideon!
