With the opening of the seals in chapter 6, I believe we see the coming of the Antichrist (The Beast or the Man of Sin) and the beginning of the Great Tribulation. Around 2 billion people will die. Then, after the signs in the sun, moon, and stars, God will begin to pour out His wrath on wicked, unrepentant mankind. Christians will be persecuted and martyred by the Antichrist, but sealed for protection from God’s out poured wrath.

This study also contains some discussion of the possible identity of the 144,000.
