Hebrews 04:01-13 The Awesome Power of God’s Word

Topics: Hebrews’ three target groups (believers, unbelievers with intellectual assent, unbelievers without intellectual assent). The importance of responding to the Holy Spirit immediately and not becoming hardened. Miracles can be evidential, but apart from an open heart and the Spirit’s work, do not persuade. Importance of not “watering down” the meaning of the “fear of the Lord.” The nature of the “rest” God speaks of in Hebrews 3 and 4. Debate with Sabbatarians about the meaning of  Hebrews 4:9. The awesome power of the Word of God. The example of fear over the new Museum of the Bible being built in Washington, DC. How neo-orthodoxy in the SBC seminaries a few decades ago tried to separate Jesus from the written Word. How OT sacrifices prefigured the way that God’s Word lays us bare.
