Counsel for Young Preachers–Part 1

In 2001 I met with several other pastors and younger preachers. The purpose of the meeting was to allow men who had been in the ministry for several decades to share nuggets of wisdom with men just entering the ministry. In the months leading up to that meeting, I wrote down as many nuggets as I could think of. During the meeting more nuggets emerged! The result was a list of 73 tips that hopefully might be helpful to young men just entering the ministry. (And perhaps to older men too!)

This post covers tips #1-10.
Part 2–Tips #11-25
Part 3–Tips #26-40
Part 4–Tips #41-73
You can find a list of all the tips here.

This series of podcasts will contain some brief comments designed to shed a bit of light on each item. I pray that God will use it to help younger preachers become better equipped for being powerfully used by Him for His glory!

“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2)

“Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.” (Proverbs 20:5)

“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.” (Proverbs 4:5-8)
