(Vickie with Baby-5)

Hi! My name is Vickie Hall. I am a professional midwife. I have formulated this letter to let you know a little more about me and what I do.

I first opened my midwifery practice in 1985. I have also had several years experience working as a medical assistant for various medical doctors.

Of my four children, two were born in a hospital and two were born at home. It was because of my homebirths that I decided to become a midwife myself. I wanted to offer other ladies the opportunity to have the kind of experience that I did. I found that my homebirths were much more relaxed and comfortable even though the babies were one to one and one half pounds larger than my hospital babies.

I believe that the reason for the difference was education and being in my own home where I felt relaxed and in control. I was educated as to what was happening to my body and why. I had control over where I wanted to be, what position I wanted to be in, and what I wanted eat and drink. I also had control over who I wanted to be with me and what I wanted them to do for me. It felt so natural.

Most importantly, I am a Christian and I believe that our Lord Jesus Christ has given me the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to help other healthy ladies have comfortable, natural births at home.

As a midwife I provide complete prenatal and postnatal care as well as attending the birth. My training includes a 3 1/2 year apprenticeship with a practicing midwife in Plano, Texas with a 6 month internship at the North Texas School of Midwifery in Grand Prairie. I have also completed the midwifery course offered by the Texas Department of Health. I am a CPM through the North American Registry of Midwives (which is an international certification). I am also professionally certified by the Association of Texas Midwives. (More Information about NARM and ATM Certification) In the rare event that there might be a complication during a pregnancy or birth, my training allows me to recognize that which is not normal and to advise clients as to what to do about the situation. I have had experience with most complications involved in delivery of a child and will be happy to answer any questions you might have as to how I would handle situations that might concern you. My personal statistics are excellent and I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you and give you any additional information you might need to make the right decision for you and your baby.
