Song of Songs 1-2 Pursue the Passion!

Song of Songs is a tough, but very exciting, book! It isn’t like any other book of the Bible.

We must avoid two extremes: On the one hand we should not try to make it into an ancient Jewish sex manual (which some in our hyper-sexualized culture  like to do for shock effect). On the other hand we must not turn it into fanciful allegory (which many older commentators have tended to do). It is simply a series of beautiful love poems that are designed to stir up feelings of God-pleasing romance in our hearts.

If we will cooperate, God will use this book to remind us that He is pleased when we cultivate a passionate, romantic relationship both with our spouse and with Him!
